The Hornaday Award

The Hornaday Award is the foremost conservation award in the Scouting program. Six Scouts and four volunteers have been recognized with a Hornaday Badge in the Flint River Council since 2010. Units also have an opportunity to earn a recognition for conservation service.

If a Boy Scout, Varsity Scout, or Venturer is interested in the Hornaday Award program, the following steps should be taken PRIOR to beginning with any work outside of the Merit Badge requirements:

  1. Read all information regarding the requirements and expectations on the National BSA Hornaday webpage.

  2. Contact the Council Conservation Committee, Keith Larson at 678-525-7713 or keith_larson@bellsouth.net

Summer Camp at Lawhorn Scouting Base

2013 is the 75th Anniversary of summer camp at Camp Thunder!

We have several exciting things planned to celebrate this milestone including a birthday party each week, a special 75th Anniversary patch, and a themed 4th of July week. And as always, we have a great selection of merit badges, our first year Scout program, fun and exciting activities, and high adventure opportunities for older Scouts.

If you haven't been to Camp Thunder in a while, we invite you to come out for this special summer and see some of the new things we have to offer.

Come celebrate with us! Weeks are filling up, so don't miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity!

Experience a second week of camp at Camp Thunder for a discounted rate!

  • If you are already coming to Thunder for one week, you may attend a second week for only $150.
  • If you are going anywhere else, including Jamboree, you may attend a week at Thunder for a discounted rate.

Don't miss this opportunity to earn more merit badges this summer. Call the Camping Department for details.

Friends of Scouting 2013

We have kicked off our Friends of Scouting Campaign for 2013.  It takes everyone’s support to make Flint River Council a success for our scouts, leaders, and their families, so our goal is 100% participation from every unit across all four of our districts.

Unit Leaders (Scoutmaster, Cubmaster, or Committee Chair) please click on the link below and take a few minutes to let us know when your unit will be holding its Blue & Gold Banquet or Court of Honor for 2012-2013.

Your District Friends of Scouting chairs will contact you to follow-up with presenter information.

Thanks for your support!
