Learning for Life Hosts Rep. Nick Thompson at Cultivation Event

FORT MYERS, Fla., Sept. 17 – Learning for Life hosted a local cultivation event for local business persons to bring awareness to the program. Learning for Life is a Character Education program that works in conjunction with the Lee County School District to help the youth of our community. Learning for Life is serving more than 19,000 students in 28 schools throughout Lee County. The Learning for Life program combines character development, life skills, academic learning and outdoor experiences into a comprehensive program geared to help students in grades K-12.  The 8 core character traits that are promoted are as follows: 1) Respect, 2) Responsibility, 3) Honesty/Trust, 4) Caring/Fairness, 5) Perseverance, 6) Self-Discipline, 7) Courage, and 8) Citizenship.

Representative Nick Thompson was the keynote speaker, addressing the local business leaders of Lee County about the importance of Character Education and programs like this. Learning for Life is excited to have such huge support from our state leaders. Rep.Thompson’s ties to the Boy Scouts and Learning for Life go back to his youth when he earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

Other local leaders in attendance included Sen. Burt Saunders and Lee County School Board Member Steven Teuber.

Today’s event was done in partnership with the Reserve Cigar Bar located on US 41 across from Page Field. Without the support from local businesses and donations, the Learning for Life program could not continue to provide their valuable services and character education curriculum to the youth in our community. Learning for Life will be having additional public awareness events throughout the year as it continues to grow and serve our students.
