BALOO - Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation
BALOO is is a one-day training event for Cub Scout leaders that introduces the skills needed to plan and conduct Pack outdoor activities, particularly pack camping. This training is required for any adult who is in charge of planning a pack campout, and it is required that at least one adult per pack complete BALOO training in order to apply for tour permits.
By completing this course, you will be able to:
Explain the focus of the Cub Scout level of the BSA camping program
Demonstrate the skills and confidence necessary to plan and carry out a successful, first-time Cub Scout camping activity.
Describe the resources available from the BSA and other sources to carry out this activity.
Discuss the requirements for successful completion of the pack activity.
Topics covered during the day will include event planning, campfire planning, camping equipment, fire safety, First aid and sanitation, nature hikes and games and Cub Scout cooking. You'll even prepare and cook your own foil lunch and participate in a class campfire program! You can download a flyer for this course here.
Check-in is at 8:30AM; we will finish up by 5:00 PM.
We will provide beverages throughout the day (Including morning coffee!), snacks and lunch. You are on your own for breakfast. If you have any specific food requirements, please contact Steve Leth at the email address above.
The course will be held in the Cub Pavilion at the Pine Hill Scout Reservation. This is a Rain or Shine event - Come prepared for the possibility of Liquid Sunshine!
Cost for the course (to cover food and supplies) is $15. You can pay online, by mail (with a copy of your receipt) or you may pay at the event.
Everyone must pre-register. Walk-ins will not be permitted!
