Blood Assurance Needs Scouter's Help

On July 11, America’s Blood Centers and the AABB issued a national appeal for blood and platelet donors as supplies have been critically low throughout the summer months. The local non-profit blood center Blood Assurance is experiencing critically low levels and is currently in need of the following blood types: O-, O+, A-, A+. With the nation’s blood supply facing significantly low inventory levels, Blood Assurance encourages individuals throughout the region to schedule an appointment to donate today.

Summer is always a challenging time to ensure an adequate blood supply due to donors taking vacations and schools being out of session. Despite the season, the need for blood remains constant and patients continue to depend on the generosity of blood donors to meet that need. Blood Assurance asks the community to take 30 minutes out of their day to replenish the blood supply and greatly appreciates all donors who choose to give back to those in need.

To be eligible to donate blood, you must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with parental consent), weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health. Donors are asked to drink plenty of fluids - avoiding caffeine - and eat a meal that is rich in protein prior to donating. For questions about donating blood, please call 800-962-0628. For more information on Blood Assurance, donating blood or hosting a blood drive, please visit www.bloodassurance.org.

About Blood Assurance

Blood Assurance is a non-profit, full-service regional blood center serving 51 counties and more than 75 health care facilities in Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina and Virginia. Over 540 volunteer blood donors are needed every day in order to adequately supply these hospitals. Founded in 1972 as a joint effort of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Medical Society, the Chattanooga Area Hospital Council, and the Chattanooga Jaycees, the mission of Blood Assurance is to provide a safe and adequate supply of blood and blood components to every area patient in need. Blood Assurance is based in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
