Year 2015 News Blast  --  January 25, 2015

Date for Scout-O-Rama changed to March 28th

The Executive Board has changed the date for Scout-O-Rama from February 7th to March 28th.  This event will be still be held at the Santa Maria Center Town Mall where it was held for the past five years. A primary reason for this change is that the Council hopes to introduce the new Scout Executive to the Scouting community at this event.  Interviews and selection of the new Scout Executive will occur during February.

We realize that this may be an inconvenience to some units had planned to attend this weekend or may have already scheduled another event on March 28th.  The theme remains STEAM which stands for Science - Technology - Engineering - Arts - Mathematics.  The packet that everyone received in December remains the same except for the date.  If you wish to download a copy of the packet, click here.  We hope to see you there!!!

Cub Scout Shooting Sports Day

There are still available space for the two sessions of Cub Scout Shooting Sports Day at Rancho Alegre on February 21st.  Cost is only $12.  Registration is excepted online for each session.

Some units like to make a day or an overnight family camp at Rancho Alegre in conjunction with this event.  If you wish to do this contact either Ron Walsh or Dana Mendoza at the Rancho Alegre office at 686-5167.

Summer Camp 2015

Rancho Alegre will be holding one week of Boy Scout Camp this year from July 19 to July 25. We have already heard from six units that want to attend this week, and we have room for more.  A primary reason for only one week in 2015 rather than the usual 2 weeks is that a number of our traditional camping units have reservations at Philmont Scout Reservation and Nortiern Tier during July for their fantastic high adventure programs.  The Scoutmaster Handbook Guide to Rancho Alegre Summer Camp will be available later thsi week.  If you wish to receive a hard copy, please notify Dana Mendoza at the Rancho Alegre Office.  Otherwise, you should be able to download it from the Council website by the end of the week.

Information on Cub Scout-Family Resident Camp on July 26-29 and Lifeguard Academy in June should also be available by that time.  Renember that one of the key elements of Scouting si the outdoor experience.

Friends of Scouting

If your unit is planning a Blue-Gold Dinner or a Court of Honor in the next few months, please contact your District Executive to arrange for a Friends of Scouting presentation.  The money raised from FOS assists the Council offer its many services at its 3 Service Centers, Scout Ranch, and training.  It is estimated that $150 is needed from FOS to cover each registered Scout in the Council.  Your contributions to FOS are tax deductible and very much appreciated by the youth of our Council area.

Please check out the Council website for other activities in the next few months, such as the Wilderness First Aid Course, District Camporees, and training sessions.  To get to the Council calendar, click on this link.
