NCAC Presents Leave No Trace Trainer Course
(Required for the Eagle LNT Leadership Position)
This course is designed to enhance your understanding of Leave No Trace practices and ethics and to increase your level of expertise and confidence in teaching Leave No Trace skills. Through focused activities, hands-on field experience and both formal and informal discussions, you will be introduced to concepts and methods that will advance your knowledge of Leave No Trace issues, expand your repertoire of low-impact skills and increase your effectiveness in teaching these important skills to others.
On completion of this course, participants will be registered as Leave No Trace Trainers with the national Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics and will receive a certificate of course completion as well as their Leave No Trace Trainer lapel pin.
Friday evening through Sunday morning, March 15-17 – Outdoor Instruction - Camp Snyder – Overnight camping – Short hikes.
Price - $ 46.00 (non-refundable) includes all camping fees, course materials, and meals. Registration is via the NCAC website.

The 2013 National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, DC, is currently accepting applications for the 9th annual parade, scheduled for 2:00 PM on Monday, May 27, 2013. This parade has grown to be a significant event in Washington, DC, and will be televised in select markets nationally. Scouts ages 11 and up are needed to help carry parade identification banners in the parade line up. The registration deadline is March 30.

Do you want the adventure of a lifetime?  Apply now to sail aboard the tall ship Coast Guard Barque Eagle!  The Eagle is a three-masted barque-rigged ship used to train cadets and officer candidates in the U.S.. Coast Guard.  The Eagle was built in Germany in 1936 and was taken as a war reparation by the USA after World War II. Since then the Eagle has been home ported in New London, Connecticut, the location of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.

The National Sea Scout Support Committee has again made special arrangements with the US Coast Guard Academy for select Sea Scouts to join as crew aboard the Eagle during its 2013 summer cadet cruise.  This opportunity is available to all Sea Scouts who desire fun, adventure, and a summer cruise to remember - you don't want to miss this chance.  This year's Sunday-to-Saturday cruises are off the New England Coast and will embark on July 28 (at Boston, MA), and August 4 (at a port-of-call to be determined).

The ideal candidate is an active Sea Scout who is at least Able rank, a leader in his/her Ship, a SEAL graduate, 16 or 17 years old, in the 10th or 11th grade at the time of application, with an interest in the Coast Guard or other military or maritime career.  Remember though, many prior successful applicants have not had all of these attributes. So who should apply?  Any Sea Scout who is interested!

The National Sea Scout Support Committee is please to introduce the New Century Universal Sea Scout Uniform ("NCUSSU").  The NCUSSU is an alternate uniform to the current adult and youth dress and work uniforms. It is intended to make it easy for members of newly formed Sea Scout Ships to outfit themselves in a Sea Scout uniform and may be chosen by any unit new or existing. When chosen by the unit, this universal uniform is worn by all youth and adult Ship members and may serve as both a dress uniform and a work uniform. The New Century Universal Sea Scout Uniform will be included in the next edition of the Sea Scout Manual, No. 33239.

In order to join the BSA contingent, all interested individuals must be nominated by your Council International Representative and approved by Council Scout Executive.  Participant age: 18-25 (Venturers, young registered adults) International Service Team age: 26 and above

What? A World Scout Moot is similar to a World Scout Jamboree, but for the next older age group. Participants in a World Scout Moot are 18 through 25 years old. Moot participants will be formed into international patrols in April, 2013, and will participate in the moot in these international patrols.

Where? The 14th World Scout Moot will take place in Canada from August 8 to 18, 2013, with activities in both Quebec and Ontario. The BSA contingent will meet in Ottawa on August 7.

Who? The BSA contingent to the World Scout Moot will consist of registered Venturers, Advisors, Associate Advisors, Scoutmasters, and Assistant Scoutmasters who were born between August 9, 1987 and August 7, 1995. This will be the first time 21-25 year old leaders have ever been part of a BSA contingent to a World Scout Moot.

What will it cost? The BSA fee of $1100 per person covers the World Scout Moot fee for lodging, food, transportation, and activities from the time you arrive at the Moot until the time you depart plus BSA badges, bags, and support.  BSA contingent members will be responsible for their own transportation to and from Ottawa.

How to apply? You must request that your council International Representative nominate you. BSA expects that all qualified nominees will be accepted.  Application forms are here.  Send your application to:

Every year, the Northeast Region Area 6 Venturing Officers Association (VOA) co-hosts an area-wide event with the assistance of a Council’s VOA at that council’s camp. This event features fun activities, a lot of good food and awesome fellowship. It’s a time for you to kick back and have fun, meet new people and try new and challenging activities.

- Venturers - 13 years of age and have completed the eighth grade to 20 years of age (inclusive).
- Advisors - 21 years old or up.
All participants must to come with a crew to this event.

Cost covers all meals, entertainment, campsite (for your crew’s tents) or camp tent accommodations, showers, flush toilets, patch and Phenomenon wristband

The Annual Sea Scout Regatta will be held on May 24 to 27, 2013  at Camp Maria Retreat Center in Leonardtown, Md.   It will be attended by about 200 Sea Scouts from all over the Eastern Seaboard.   The week-end will be full of competitive events and social activities.
All Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are invited to visit or attend.   Those attending who are between the age of 14 and 21 may compete in all events.   Scouts of other ages may take part in all events except the scored events.   Some of the scored events include races in canoeing, rowing, pulling boat, sailboats, also swimming, knot tying, First Aid, Mariner Quiz, drill, heaving line, boatswain’s chair lift, and much more.
Day visitors are welcome, bring a lunch.   Those attending for the week-end must register and pay all fees.  Contact Regatta Chair Doug Yeckley   for a Regatta Boarding Book.
