NCAC POWDER HORN 2013

Come join us for the NCAC 2013 Powder Horn Training course!  Our four-day course is designed to help the troop, team, or crew by exposing older Scouts, Venturers, and adult leaders to safely conducted outdoor/high-adventure activities of a fun and challenging nature. The course provides an introduction to the resources needed to successfully lead youth through a program of outdoor adventure and is based upon giving participants an exposure to some outdoor/high-adventure activities. The course presenters are expert consultants in each outdoor high adventure activity. It is not a certification event. It is for any youth or adult interested in experiencing a unit-level, high-adventure program.

The date for the 2013 course is August 22-25, 2013  to be held at Camp Snyder in Haymarket, Virginia. Details for registration and cost will be forthcoming.

If you have any questions please contact: Steve Wolf .

Aquatics Courses

BSA Safe Swim Defense (SSD) and Safety Afloat (SA) training is required for any BSA unit conducting swimming or boating activities. Adult leaders supervising a swimming/boating activity must have completed Safe Swim Defense/Safety Afloat training within the previous two years.
SSD and SA training is available online at scouting.org. In-person training consists of viewing the SSD or SA DVD and answering the interactive questions that are part of the training. The advantage to in-person training is that questions can be asked of the facilitator.  Contact the NCAC Aquatics Committee Chair Mike Meenehan  to arrange in-person training for your Unit.

NCAC also offers this training at Pow Wow and University of Scouting. This training must be presented by qualified trainers.

NCAC Challenge: I’m Prepared

The NCAC Scouting Challenge is a local program started last year to encourage Scouts and leaders at all levels of the program to develop new skills. The challenge for this first quarter of 2013 is “I’m Prepared,” which includes knowing how to “Be Prepared” for natural and man-made disasters, visiting local emergency services providers and receiving training in first aid. Completing this part of the Challenge creates a good foundation for future adventures. Learn more at www.BoyScouts-NCAC.org/Challenge.
