10/11 Alaska Trip Meeting
We will be meeting at 6:30 PM at the Spellman Center to review our plans for the trip to Alaska. At our last meeting we found air fare has dropped to under $500. This is great news as it cuts our travel expenses in half!! We will be focusing on the itinerary and lodging this meeting.

10/27 & 11/3 Scouting for Food
Our annual food drive is coming at the end of the month. All scouts are expected to participate. This event is desperately needed and the time counts towards your community service hours too!

10/28 PLC Meeting
Sunday night the PLC will meet at 7:00 PM to review and plan the next month’s activities. All PLC members are required to attend. Class A shirt required. Bring a snack to share!

11/11 Veteran’s Day Parade
A required event for the troop, we will again be marching to show respect for our veterans. More information will be posted soon.

11/16-18 Thanksgiving Feast
Our annual Thanksgiving Feast is fast approaching. Michael M is leading this year’s event and is looking for some help in planning, shopping, and cooking! See him if you want to volunteer.

12/6 Movie Night
This night is an open competition for all scouts to create and show a movie of their own creation. You may work in teams or individually, points are awarded for originality and technique.

2/8-10 Gold Rush
The Staff is assembling for this year’s Gold Rush. See JASM Robert for more details and to volunteer.

4/28 Soapbox Derby
We will be running a full-sized soapbox derby in April at the Spellman Parking lot. Plans are available on the troop website and we estimate it will take most of the winter to build your cars. More info as we approach the race!

Other News and Events
Summer Camp 2013
We are booked into Wanalancet site again next year. Starting in January we will begin collecting reservation fees for our week in the woods. Parents who wish to attend for some or all of the week are welcome too!

Where to go in 2014?
Its time to start thinking about where we should take the troop in the summer of 2014. We’d like a road trip for this event and we have had several suggestions so far.

  • City hiking in Montreal or Quebec
  • Exploring Niagara Falls
  • Canoeing in Maine
  • Fishing the Great Lakes

We are looking for more options and we need to make a decision so we can begin planning for this trip. A scout is needed as the TripMaster. He will be responsible for scheduling meetings, assigning research and coordinating the trips. This counts as a leadership position in the troop so see SM Mike if you are interested.

And don’t forget, our long range plan for 2015 is to go here:

10/11 – Monthly Parent's Meeting
We ask all parents to attend our monthly Parent meetings to review upcoming events and volunteer to assist or run some of the upcoming events. We meet at 8PM on the second Thursday of each month. Each event has a scout as the event coordinator, but we need to have an adult to mentor and guide the scout. This is also a chance to ask your questions about the troop and learn a bit more about the opportunities within the troop for your son and yourself over the next year.

Registration and Permission Slips for 2012-2013
Registration forms and dues notices were handed out at the Annual Parent’s meeting in June. Dues are $80 per boy for the entire year (there is a reduced fee for additional sons in the Troop). Dues are expected by the October 25th Troop meeting. Permission slips and registration forms are due now.

Gillette Fund-raising Events
There are still openings for those who want to help with the Gillette fund-raiser. Upcoming events are:

  • 10/7
  • 10/21
  • 11/11

Contact Sheila for more information.

Friends Raffle Fund Raiser
The Friends of Troop 22 parent group is hosting a raffle. Tickets will be distributed and cost $5 each. The prizes include a Sit-in kayak, tickets to a Patriots game, gift cards to Dicks and Dunkin Donuts. See SA Brian for more information or to help out.

Upcoming Events Need a Hand Too
We have a few upcoming campouts and troop meetings that we could use some extra hands with.

  • 1/3 & 1/10  Scale Model nights. We will be building models and mounting them in dioramas. Folks who build models and have tools to show the scouts are needed.
  • 3/7 Show & Tell Hobbies, crafts, work, whatever. Bring in the thing you do and set up a table to talk with the scouts about your interests.

Please let SM Mike know if you can help!

Fund-Raising
We are looking for some adults to help organize fund-raisers to help with Summer Camp and Trip expenses. We particularly are looking to run events that the scouts can participate in to help raise the money for their events, If you have ideas and are willing to lend a hand, come to the next Parent’s Meeting and let us know.

Merit Badge Nights
We are looking to fill in our next sessions for Merit Badges. Please take a look at www.meritbadge.com for the current badges and their requirements.

The nights for each session (3 meetings each session) are listed here. Please understand that we do need you to commit to all of the nights in a particular session. Please see SM Mike or SA Brian to help.
   Session 1      9/27      10/25       11/15
   Session 2    12/20       1/31         2/14

Troop Directory
We are always looking to maintain our troop directory. Mailing address, home phone, and cell phone numbers for emergency contact are very important. Please let us know if your contact information has changed so we can update our records.

Scoutmaster’s Corner
At times you may think your life isn't all that great, especially when you have a lot of homework or your parents are bearing down on you.

But if you think about it for a moment, you'll realize that you do have a good life. You have three good meals a day, a home to go to, a chance to go to school, plenty of friends, and maybe a little spending money. You also have parents, who love you, and that's a big blessing; I'm sure they do lots of Good Turns for you that you hardly ever think about.

This month we're going to do a Good Turn, Scouting for Food, for two reasons. One is that our Scout Oath pledges us to help other people. The other is that we owe something to those around us - our parents, our community, and our Troop's chartered organization. You might call this Good Turn a Good Turnabout because in part it's a way to show our appreciation.

I expect to see all of you out on our Good Turn days, not because you have to be but because you want to. As the old saying goes, "Turnabout is fair play," and with this Good Turn we'll be saying thanks to those who have helped us as well as our community as a whole.
