 Scout-O-Rama - February 2nd

February 2, 2013 - Santa Maria Town Center Mall - FREE2013 Scout-O-Rama Patch

Join thousands of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturers from across the Central Coast at the annual Los Padres Council Scout-O-Rama.

“What is a Scout-O-Rama?”

It’s one of the best ways for Scouting to show our communities all the great things that go on in Scouting. Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, and Venturing Crews put on booths, games, and activities in the Town Center Mall for the thousands of visitors who attend each year.

“Can Our Unit Put on a Booth or Activity??”

YES!! Absolutely. The possibilities are limitless!!! (except for the space and rules of the mall): Pinewood derbies, space derbies, rain gutter regatta, rubber band target shooting, soap carving, realistic first aid, model campsites, monkey bridges (think safety!), map and compass, leather work, mask making, and the list goes on. Plan now for your display (remember to make it interactive) and mark the date on your calendar.

Some of the highlights from the 2012 Scout-O-Rama were:

  • Council-Wide Pinewood Derby for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Adults, and Siblings
  • LEGO Derby
  • Climbing Wall
  • SB County SWAT Team
  • Rubber Band Gun Target Shooting
  • Monkey Bridges

This year we plan to have more Scouting units and community organizations participating and more Scouts attending this free event!

Closing Begins: 3:15 p.m.

Location: Pacific Christian Church

3435 Santa Maria Way (Pacific Christian Center)

The College of Commissioner Science is a training format for Scouting Commissioners modeled after college courses and degrees. The college borrows terminology from higher education. Session topics become “courses” with course numbers.

Courses in the “curriculum” are divided into three program levels:

  • bachelor’s program
  • master’s program
  • doctor’s program

Awards are called degrees:

  • bachelor of commissioner science
  • master of commissioner science
  • doctor of commissioner science (Ph.D.)

Commissioners primarily provide unit service. Unit service is one of four important functions of every local council, the others being membership, finance, and program.

The commissioner helps chartered organizations and the leaders of their units achieve the objectives of Scouting. The primary objective is to help each and every unit provide a quality Scouting program happen for all our youth members.

Participant Cost: $25, if paid by January 21. $30 after that.
Staff Cost: $13.

Rescheduled from October 27, 2012. The new Commissioner curriculum to be taught.
