The purpose of the Merit Badge College (MBC) is to offer Scouts an opportunity to meet with highly qualified counselors getting help to earn the merit badges and foster development of lifelong interests. Particular emphasis is given to those merit badges with a limited availability of counselors. The MBC is not a program that guarantees advancement. No MB requirements will be excused and none will be "gifted". Please note that in some cases, the scout will not complete all of the requirements needed for the merit badge. Merit badges being offered are subject to change based on counselor availability.
This is a CLASS A event. Photographers should be expected. All Scouts and Scout Leaders are asked to wear their full uniform.
Open registration is from November 1, 2007 - December 31, 2007. Registration by scouts must be made on-line. Online registration includes payment of fees. Registration is first come, first served.
The fee is $12 per Scout. This covers lunch, patch, facilities and communication costs. Some classes may require an extra fee.
IMPORTANT: At least 1 adult from each troop must register and attend for the day. If a troop is NOT registering their scouts at one time, please ensure that at least 1 adult attends representing that troop. This is for the safety of your scouts. We ask that adults be available to provide 2-deep leadership in MB classes. We will schedule your assistance so you will be able to attend on of the adult courses.
The unit leader should ensure that each Scout is capable of understanding the material of the merit badge he has chosen.
Scouts are expected to secure a MB pamphlet in advance of the MBC and have read it.
Scouts are to have a blue MB card filled out with his personal information and signed by his scoutmaster before going to class.
Prerequisite information is included in the course catalog that can be found on the web site. It is the Scout's responsibility to complete any prerequisite or project or other outside work prior to the MBC and present the work or evidence of to the counselor. A note from the Scoutmaster or a signed prior partial MB Card may be useful in this. It is the Merit Badge Counselor who determines, finally, if the Scout has met the MB requirements. |
