Registering more than 29,000 youth between the ages of 7 and 20, with 939 packs, troops, crews, posts, and groups in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties, the Great Lakes Council, Boy Scouts of America (GLC) is the area’s foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training. GLC is led by 11,365 adult volunteers, whose dedication of time and resources has enabled the Great Lakes Council to remain the leading youth-service organization in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties
509 young men achieved the Eagle Scout award in 2009, the highest accomplishment in Scouting. 17,588 other rank awards and 20,790 merit badges were earned by Scouts.
7,498 youth enjoyed summer camp programs in 2009. At camp, Scouts gain a positive sense of self-worth while shaping their personal values and character.
