Scout Heritage Museum

Three Harbors Council’s Milwaukee office is the home of the Scout Heritage Museum.  The museum was organized in July of 1975 with a mission to collect, repair, preserve and prepare for exhibit Scouting items of historical value and interest.  Today, the museum houses items from both of Three Harbors’ legacy councils in one of the finest collections of historic Scouting memorabilia in the United States.

In the museum you'll find photographs, unit charters, unit and district flags, rank and commemorative patches, camping gear, Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Sea Scout uniforms as well as Scout and Scout leaders handbooks.  Gilwell Park, the birthplace of Scouting, is well represented with photographs, documents and early awards closely tied to R.S.S. Baden-Powell.  Today most Scouts ride to camp in a car, minivan or SUV.  In the Scout Heritage Museum you learn what it was like taking first a train and then a horse-drawn wagon to reach one of our council’s great northwoods camps.  Ben Hunt, the well known author and friend of Scouting, is well represented with the actual neckerchief slides, costumes and Native American inspired crafts that he created for Boys Life magazine and other Scouting publications.

The Scout Heritage Museum is managed and staffed by a group of dedicated volunteers who can provide you and your unit with a guided tour, as well as answer your questions if you just want to stop in for a few minutes during your visit to the council office or the Scout Shop. Museum hours are 12 Noon - 4 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, as well as 9 a.m. - 12 noon on Saturday and admission is free.

Since volunteers staff the museum, it’s best to call ahead to make sure you won’t be disappointed.  The number is (414) 443-2850.  If you have an interest and want to learn about joining the museum’s volunteer team then call the same number and leave your name and phone number.

Don’t miss the opportunity to visit one of the best Boy Scout museums in the United States.
