Register online for 2008 today! Rodney Scout Reservation is located on over 900 acres of rolling upland woodlands at the head of the Chesapeake Bay and boasts over a mile of prime bay frontage. It has been in continuous operation since 1923. Rodney is located in Cecil County Maryland, about 6 miles Southeast of Interstate 95 and Maryland Route 40, off Maryland Route 272 near the town of North East. The Best Aquatics Program in the Nation
Located on the Chesapeake Bay and boasting over a mile of shoreline, our aquatics program can’t be beat. At the pool, program features include swimming instruction, swimming merit badge, mile swim, polar bear swim, life saving merit badge, BSA Lifeguard, snorkeling, free swim, and campwide games. The boatyard features rowing, and canoeing merit badges as well as open boating and kayaking on the Chesapeake Bay – you can even try our sleek rowing shells. Our sailing base is the place to be for sailing, boardsailing, water skiing, and motor boating. In addition to merit badge classes, we offer recreational sailing (sunfish and Hobie cats) opportunities every afternoon. Scouts 14 and up can enjoy our High Adventure Sailing on the Chesapeake Bay. It is an opportunity not to be missed.
Nature - Ecology the Rodney WayThe nature program is a favorite of Rodney summer campers. From the Bull Mountain Wilderness area to the Dismal Swamp, from the Chesapeake Bay to the North East River, come and explore the beautiful and varied wildlife, flora and fauna of our nationally recognized program. Our Bull Mountain Wilderness Area was set aside in 1963 to be held forever wild, and serves as an area to observe animals close at hand, and for hiking and merit badge study. A full range of nature/ecology merit badges is offered including: archaeology, astronomy, environmental science, insect study, space exploration, soil and water conservation, fish and wildlife management, geology, nature, weather, reptile and amphibian study, forestry, mammals, oceanography, and bird study. Additional programs such as troop naturalist, brown bag nature program, and service projects are also offered. Scoutcraft – The heart of Scouting
The skills that have long set Scouting apart from other youth programs are highlighted here in our Scoutcraft Program. It’s been said the way to judge a Scout camp is by its Scoutcraft Program. Rodney’s quality program boasts a remote yet remarkable location offering camping, cooking, hiking, orienteering, pioneering, wilderness survival, Firem’n Chit, Tot n’ Chip, Paul Bunyan Woodsman, Dutch oven cooking, outpost camping, and evening program specialties. At the Handicraft Lodge there’s always activity!At Rodney we teach skills of various merit badges for hobby interests or just for the fun of knowing how to make use of nature’s materials. This program answers the creative urge to make something. We offer basketry, Indian lore, leatherwork, metal work, woodcarving, pottery and art. Materials and supplies are provided for ALL merit badge requirements. Try one of the handicrafts merit badges and you could have a hobby for life. Be King of Our Mountain by Biking it!
The Mountain Biking Program has been expanded to include the Mountain Biking RSR Patch Project, Mountain Biking “For The Fun Of It,” Outbound Adventure as well as the opportunity to obtain partial credit toward the Cycling Merit Badge. Five mountain biking trails challenge Scouts of all abilities. Maintenance and safety instruction are the practical components of this program. Target One of Rodney’s Three RangesAt one of our three ranges, Scouts will develop safe and accurate shooting skills for rifles, shotguns and/or bow and arrow. Open shoots and special activities are all part of the regular Shooting Sports program. Make sure you check out our NEW shotgun range! Brownsea: A First Year Camper Program This program is aimed at the 11-year old Scout or newly crossed over Webelos Scout. It is designed to give a new Scout the basic camping skills he needs and will include many requirements for rank advancement for Tenderfoot, 2nd Class and 1st Class. In addition, the first year camper will visit and participate in most program areas in camp. There are merit badge opportunities in swimming, nature, and handicraft, as well as Tot n’ Chip, Firem’n Chit and other programs. Scouts may also visit the archery and rifle ranges, and try canoeing, kayaking and rowing. Challenging Programs for Older Scouts  Canoeing, Kayaking, Waterskiing, Boardsailing, Mountain Biking, Climbing Tower, and much more awaits those boys who are returning to camp for the second or third year. The Blackhawk Adventure is a high adventure program featuring climbing, kayaking, mountain biking, hiking, team building, and other challenges for scouts 14 and older. Our High Adventure Sailing program is top-notched. You will sail the Chesapeake on a 36-38 foot sailboat for your week of camp. Provisional Camp & Encore CampIf you are unable to attend camp with your troop, or if you want to come to camp for an additional week, provisional camping is your answer. Plan your merit badge schedule or spend your time sailing, windsurfing or whatever you want to focus on. Scouts attending a second week at a Del-Mar-Va Council camp pay a discounted fee of $265. Please call camping services department for information or an application. Other Details: Food Service: Three food service options are available: Dining Hall, Heater Stack (Already prepared food delivered to your campsite) and Troop Commissary (your troop provides & prepares your own food). Your campsite determines your food service plan.
Camp Facilities: All Scouts stay in 2-person wall tents set on wooden platforms. Cots are provided. Some sites have cabins that leaders may use if they wish. Troops doing heater stack or troop commissary food service will stay in sites that have cabins with kitchens, providing them with a “troop-dining hall.” [ Camp map ]
Family Night: Friday night is family night at Rodney Scout Reservation. All are welcome to share in our evening meal, tour camp and campfire.
