Newport News Government Scout Day
Boy Scouts, grades 9-12 who are residents of Newport News are invited to take part in the 2012 Newport News Government Scout Day. This is an excellent oppotunity for scouts to see how local government works and gain first hand experience. For more information about how to register, click here

National Jewish Committee on Scouting Scholarships
Each year, the National Jewish Committee on Scouting offers five college/university scholarships worth a total of $7,000 to Jewish Eagle Scouts who also earn the Ner Tamid or Etz Chaim religious emblems. Some scholarships are based on financial need and others are not. Information about the scholarships may be found at the NJCoS web site.
Applications for the NESA scholarships can be found by clicking here. For 2012, applications will be accepted from 11/1/11 to 2/29/12. Selections will be announced on or about May 1, 2012. If you have additional questions not answered on the web site or application, please contact Jay Schnapp directly.

U.S. Flag Retirements
The United States Flag Code states: "The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning. The Colonial Virginia Council has a large number of flags that need to be retired. If your unit would/could run a flag retirement ceremonies and help us to properly retire these flags, please stop by the Council office to pick up some flags.
