 From the Cubmaster

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving was last Thursday, and I hope you had a chance to gather with friends and family and celebrate the bounty of the year and reflect on all for which you are thankful. While the Reed family doesn't follow the tradition of going around the dinner table offering up public thanks (we're usually too busy eating), I do like to take a moment around Thanksgiving time to reflect on the past year and identify those things for which I am truly greatful. Here are a few Cub Scout-specific thanks I would like to share with you:

First, I am thankful for the parents who stepped up this year and joined the Pack Committee. We now (finally!) have representation from all the Dens, so there will be continuity in the program after the Webelos 2 parents move on. Thanks to Andrew Benson, Tammy and Lance Pennington, and especially to Robert Foster who stepped in to the position of Committee Chairman.

Second, I am thankful for a set of dedicated Den leaders who help make the program a great one for the boys. Paul and Kathy Riemann are continuing to lead their Dens this year. Jennifer Bushman has stepped up to take the reins of the Webelos 1 Den, giving Dave Geer a much-needed break from the job. Andy Davis is back at the helm of the Bear den, allowing Robert to take on the Committee Chair role. And Thomas Gilman has jumped in to leading the Tiger Den with no hesitation at all. Please give your Den leaders the thanks and support they deserve - they all do a great job!

And finally, I am thankful for the Cub Scouts of Pack 321. October's Halloween Carnival ran very smoothly, with only one hitch (hey, the plate was supposed to be unbreakable...clearly it wasn't tested by 9-year-olds!). And the Raingutter Regatta saw more great competition and sportsmanship from all the boys. They make my job as Cubmaster way more fun than I thought it would be, which is definitely something to appreciate!
