• Minutes from last meeting were reviewed, they have been posted on line. 

6) Treasurer’s Report – Susan Sizemore (Erica ’11)

• Current balance: $1578
• Upcoming expenditures: $200 for June Picnic, $50 donation to Veterans home

·         News from The Yard

o        USNA holding science, math programs this summer for high school students. USNA would like more science and math (stem majors) in upcoming classes.

o        In February the Firsties learned of their ship selections.

o        May 22 is graduation.

o        A Chapel restoration is currently going on. During the restoration services will only be held in the Rotunda. Therefore if you plan on going to mass there, arrive early.

o        The plebe class successfully place a “Dixie cup” (plebe summer head cover) on top of the chapel, using a remote control air balloon.

o        LOG Magazine, recommend purchasing a subscription. There are a number of inside jokes that you can read about in the magazine. Cost is $50/year.

o        SHIPMATE Magazine is also recommended. You will receive this magazine if you join the alumni association.

o        For the Firsties, you can buy an Ensign Cover at www.johnsonsontheavenue.com for $135. For Marine Cover you can go to www.marineshop.com. For the sword, diploma frame and officer box you may purchase at the mid store.

o        Army/Navy football game tickets are available now. It is recommended you go to at least one Navy home game and one Army/Navy game.

o        O Club, now call the Navel Academy Club. It has been remodeled. It is definitely worth going to at least once.

9) Blue & Gold Officers’ Report

·         The WNY USNA Alumni Association's annual midshipman candidate dinner is scheduled for Friday, May 29 at the Irondequoit Country Club. RADM Donald Quinn will be the speaker, and Congressman Eric Massa has also tentatively agreed to speak. More details will be sent later. For any Mid that is home, it would be very appreciated if you attend the dinner.

• By April 15 all candidates will know if have been offered an appointment.
• I day is July 1
• For the class of 2013, 15,000 applied, 11,000 qualified, 1003 were offered appointments.

10) Old Business

• Picnic – Gary & Nora Hampton (Donald ’11), Chairs
• Picnic will be Sunday afternoon, June 7.
• The location will be DeWitt Recreation Area in Batavia.
• Opportunity for incoming Plebes to talk to current students and incoming Plebe parents to talk to current and alumni parents.
• Fund Raising
• Messiah Greeting Cards are available for purchase. Card in blank inside and picture on card was photographed by our own Bruce Landis. It is a beautiful picture of the stain glass window in the Chapel taken during the Messiah Concert.

o        “Big Bag ‘O Navy Stuff” Raffle, the drawing held and winner was Gary and Nora Hampton.

o        Shirts, bags, hats with our WNY Club logo available through purchase at the USNA Alumni Association www.USNA.com . 10% of proceeds go to club. 

o        Raffle -2008 Team Signed Navy Football – Thank You Tom & Karen Tumminello (Rob ’08)!  

o        1 ticket - $5.00, 3-$10.00, 10-$20.00

o        Drawing will be at Plebe Picnic.

• The general consensus was to not hold event.
• Presentation of Gold Coins (two 2009 coins) to Firstie Parents
