Welcome to the Foothills District
of the Chief Seattle Council,
Boy Scouts of America.
The Foothills District primarily serves the approximately 2000 youth in the communities of Auburn, Algona, Pacific, Covington, and Maple Valley.
The Foothills District was formed in 1996 when the Green River District was split because of the large number of youth and units it was serving. The Green River District continues to serve the communities of Kent and Renton.
The Foothills District earned the Quality District Award in 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2006. by providing increasing opportunities for youth to join the program, achieving its Friends of Scouting gift goal, and providing a quality program to its units. The Foothills District continues the tradition of being a quality district.
John Padgett currently serves as our District Executive. John has been an executive with the Boy Scouts of America for nine years. When John is not working hard serving youth he plays hard. Enjoying the beauty of the Northwest, John and his wife Rebekah are avid cyclists, skiers, and SCUBA divers. John is an active member of the Cascade Bicycle Club’s Education Committee, Auburn Maple Valley/Black Diamond Chamber of Commerce, and volunteer with the Issaquah Food Bank. John has worked at all three Boy Scout National High Adventure Programs that include; the Sea Base in the Florida Keys, Northern Tier in Ely, Minnesota and Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. John also worked for Virgin Islands National Park. John is an Eagle Scout from the Longhorn Council in Ft. Worth, Texas where he grew up and graduated from the University of North Texas.
The Foothills District Serves over 1000 adult volunteers that serve over 2000 youth. Over 50 outstanding volunteers provide unit service, membership services, finance service and program on our District Committee.
The Foothills District runs a number of fun district-wide activities each year including the bicycle rodeo, Fall Camporee, and Summer Cub Scout Day Camp. Good Turn for America, advancement programs, and the Order of the Arrow Chapter are character-building activities provided to our youth. We also support our volunteers in their efforts by providing training programs and recognition for their hard work throughout the year.
