Chicagoland Fire Safety Good Turn

The Boy Scout Councils of the Chicago metropolitan area are participating in a fire safety good turn for our neighbors. During the month of October, every Scout is asked to distribute door hangers reminding their neighbors to take several actions to prevent fire disasters: check their smoke alarm batteries and plan family escape routes, among others. Those Scouts who participate will recieve a Good Turn Fire Safety patch from the Scout Store.

Unit Participation Procedures

  1. Pick up the Fire Safety Door Hangers and Scout participation cards at the district roundtable or Scout Store.
  2. Have each Scout distribute at least ten door hangers in their neighborhood during the month of October.
  3. Turn in a list of Scouts from your unit to the Scout Store to receive the Good Turn Fire Safety patches by November 30, 2009.

Fire Safety Good Turn Goals

  • Prevent fire disasters and encourage fire safety
  • Distribute information on how to join the Scouts
  • Teach young people about the importance of “helping other people at all times”.
  • Inform the general public about Scouting in their neighborhoods
