New to Scouting?

What You Should Know

About our District...

The Choptank District is geographically the largest district of the Del-mar-va Council of the Boys Scouts of America and includes scouts in the four Maryland counties of Caroline, Dorchester, Queen Anne, and Talbot.

The Choptank District is also home to the Henson Scout Reservation, one of the two camps of the Del-mar-va Council.

A district is set up the same way that a pack, troop, or crew is set up. There is a committee that plans upcoming events for the district just as there is a committee that plans events for the unit.

The committee is led by the District Chair who is ultimately responsible for the way the district is run?just as a Committee Chair is responsible for their unit

The District Chair and members of the District Committee are all volunteers. Only one staff member from the Boy Scouts of America is assigned to each district to assist where needed.

Think a Venturing Crew might be for you?

Check out Easton Venturing

Crew 532....

Can you picture you and your friends scuba diving on a shipwreck in the clear, warm water of the Caribbean during summer break next year, rock climbing, snow boarding, whitewater rafting, canoeing in Alaska, or going to see a Broadway show in New York? That would just be a sample of the kind of exciting activities we do in Venturing Crew 532. Local teenagers like you are starting a new high adventure scouting group in Easton! You may have been a Girl Scout or Boy Scout, however, no scouting experience is necessary. If you like outdoors, this adventure this is for you!

Venturing is the teenage (14yrs to 21yrs), coed program of the Boy Scouts of America. Members of the crew choose, plan, and run all of our activities. We meet on the Monday (closest to the First of each month) at the Elks Lodge #1622 in Easton Maryland. You can check out the Venturing site on You Tube and Facebook  [Easton Venture Crew 532] to see what our crew is doing. Contact the Crew advisor [jsbell@tcps.k12.md.us] to join or gather more information about this unique youth lead group.

Just Say "Yes" To What Scouting is All About...

The boys and leaders of T741 of St. Michaels raise over $4600 for the earthquake victims in Haiti!

How It Happened:

Scoutmaster Bill Roth and parents of Scouts brainstormed about what to do to help the people in Haiti.  They decided to collect money for the Red Cross who were running low on funds for medical supplies.

A parent contacted Graul's and Acme in St. Michaels to see if they would let the Scouts set up in front of their stores - they said "yes."

Bill Roth called District Chair Deb Holland to see if the Scouts could raise money for the Red Cross - she said "yes."

A parent called the Star-Democrat to ask if they could get something in the paper about the collection - they said "yes."

Bill called WCEI Radio to see if they would announce what Scouts were doing on the radio - they said "yes."

Bill called and emailed all the Troop members to see if they could work 2-hour shifts that weekend - they said "yes."

The boys did a great job working out the times they would work.

Bill called the P741 Cub Master to see if the Cubs could fill in on some of the shifts - they said "yes."

And the people of the community coming in and out of the stores all said "yes."

Everything came together in 2 days and everyone worked together to make this happen.

Scoutmaster Bill Roth is very proud of the Scouts and parents of T741 and the people of our community - as all of us involved in Scouting are as well.

As Bill says, this is truly what Scouting is all about.

KUDOS TO THE BOYS, LEADERS, AND PARENTS OF TROOP 741!

CUB SCOUT DEN LEADERS!!

Have you tried FAST TRACKS??

(Not to be confused with Fast START!)

FAST TRACKS is a series of den meeting plans (two den meetings per month) designed to be used in conjunction with the youth handbooks. By following the prescribed den meeting plans as written, the boys will fulfill the requirements necessary to earn the badge of rank by early spring.

YOU WON'T BELIEVE THE TIME IT WILL SAVE!
