 FIRST AID AND CPR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED Philmont  requires that at least one person, preferably two, (either an Advisor or a youth participant) in each crew be currently certified in American Red Cross Wilderness First Aid or the equivalent* and CPR from the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross or the equivalent.

Wilderness First Aid
 
Recommended for all Crews/Ships going on a High Adventure.  Required for certain Venturer awards.  Required for Philmont and Northern Tier. (You must present current certification cards upon check in to verify this requirement.)  Prepares you for emergencies in the wilderness which is any where that emergency services are more than 30 minutes away.
The Wilderness First Aid course provides basic knowledge and skills to enable participants to make decisions about emergency care in wilderness settings, including patient protection, care of injuries for extended periods of time, simple evacuation techniques, and protection of the other members of the party  Participants must  be 14 years old.

Designed to meet the needs of the Venturing Ranger Program including the optional first aid requirements.

 


COPE

 

Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience! 

 

COPE is an extremely effective team building program that utilizes initiative games, as well as low and high course events that progressively build on the seven major goals of the program: Teamwork, Communication, Leadership, Problem Solving, Decision Making, Self Esteem and Trust.

Aquatics Courses

Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat Training   is required to be updated every two years.  On line training.

Shooting Sports  The NCAC Shooting Sports Committee coordinates the requirements, policies and guidelines for all Scouting-related shooting sports in the National Capital Area Council. More information about the committee and the training offered is available here.


Leave No Trace outdoor skills and ethics awareness program.  Scouts and Scouters who complete the Leave No Trace requirements are entitled to wear the Leave No Trace temporary patch (No. 8630).
