Council Jamboree Status Update

The 100th Anniversary of Scouting will be celebrated at the National Scout Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill from July 26, 2010 through August 4, 2010. Preparation for the Great Southwest Council has begun and Robert Friesner is the Chair for this event. The 2 contingent troops representing the Great Southwest Council are full. However, a waiting list has been started and only a few scouts are on it. If you want to be put on the waiting list and meet the following criteria, please fill out an application (with NO deposit), which can be found at www.gswcbsa.org. The troops’ scoutmasters will be decided by mid-January, and will help to decide on the other assistants.

(A Scout who has completed the 6th grade, or will be at least 12 years old and a 1st Class Scout by July 1, 2010, but not have reached his 18th birthday by Aug. 3, 2010 and lives and abides by the Scout Oath and Law and the jamboree code of conduct may participate in the Jamboree).

All waiting list applicants will be placed if a current participant is not able to attend the Jamboree. Also, if space is available in neighboring councils, then the applicants may be able to attend with that council’s troop contingent.

Another possibility to attend the Jamboree is to be on staff, but those positions are filling up fast also. Please visit www.bsajamboree.org for more information. Also, anyone can attend as a visitor, but activities are limited.
