WEEK 8

For Scouts

This week (ending 11/5) will be the last week for Fill-A-Sheet prizes. No prizes after 11/5. All scouts who want a chance at the drawing for the seat on the Shark's bench must have at least one filled order sheet into the council office (FAX: 508-752-3047 or email: Alison.specter@scouting.org) by 3 PM on 11/5 to participate in this very important drawing.

All scouts that submit a filled-order-sheet will win a prize this week! We have binoculars, compasses, golf stuff, and other cool things floating that we're itchin? to give away.

In the past, we have required the attachment of the take order sheets (copies, of course) to the camp voucher requests.  While this was not documented in the popcorn guidebook this year, we do ask that you submit the camp voucher sheet with a copy of the each scout's take order sheet. Parents do not send in the camp voucher sheet, the kernels will do that with one camp voucher form for the unit.  Forms are to be submitted to Alison Specter (fax: 508-752-3047 or via email to alison.specter@scouting.org) by December 18.

We do not have the scout show tickets yet but will distribute them to every scout for every sheet they filled when the tickets become available. Sharks tickets are claimed on your unit's order of tickets to the Sharks Scout Night. The Sharks tickets are ordered directly with the Sharks. The order form is included in the Popcorn Guide. The Council will verify with the Sharks the number of free tickets redeemed once the unit ticket orders are placed. Remember the limit of 2 free Sharks tickets per scout that filled a sheet.

Please get your passport to the council office after you place your order (as you will need the numbers from your order) but before the Delivery Date.  You may email, fax, snail mail, bring it by, whatever works for you.  Please make a copy of it for your records before sending it in.

The Camp Voucher form is submitted by the Unit Kernel to the Council - alison.specter@scouting.org The form is found in the Forms Section of the Popcorn Guide on Page 34.  Here's a link to the Popcorn Guide /openrosters/DocDownload.asp?orgkey=1339&id=64996 The parents don't send in the form; it's one form from the unit.

Our Scouts sold $255,000.00  in popcorn last year!  Of that amount, over 70% of the sale stayed local.  In fact, 1/3rd of that amount went directly to the unit's that sold to fund their programs and activities! Units can earn enough to cover their program costs for the entire year with this single fundraiser.

The Mohegan Council received a net of $75,000.00 from popcorn proceeds last year. 5% of this was used to purchase the prizes for scouts. The remainder supports 15% of the Mohegan Council's operational budget which includes support of district operations in Hassanamisco, Quinsigamond and Massasoit Districts.

Popcorn proceeds fund a percentage of the following operations:

?         Providing membership recruitment

?         Training volunteers

?         Camping services

?         Program delivery support to our youth

?         Registration services

?         Trip & tour planning

?         Advancement support

?         Marketing

?         Administrative support

Popcorn enables your unit to do the things you want without having to do lots of fund raisers.  The idea is to have this one fund-raiser in the fall support the entire year of Scouting. This is an officially approved council unit money-earning project that many packs and troops participate in each year. Do your sale in the fall and reap the benefits for the rest of the year.

Here is what the most successful units did when they sold their popcorn:

1. Planned out the year ahead and set a unit budget.
2. Set sales goals for the unit and the Scouts.
3. Established Scout Accounts to help each Scout and his family with his   Scouting expenses.
4. Held a unit program kickoff to tell the Scouts and parents about the great year planned.
5. Sold popcorn by various methods such as TAKE ORDER, SHOW AND SELL, SHOW AND DELIVER, and SELLING AT WORK.
6. Scouts continued until their goal was met (usually 3 or 4 afternoons or weekend days).

There are exciting prizes for all the Scouts who sell popcorn!  Additional special prizes for Fill-A-Sheet with orders ? this includes:

?         A complimentary ticket to the New England Scout Show, January 23 ? 24, 2010 at the DCU Exhibition Center Exhibit Halls. Scouts earn one ticket with each sheet filled ? fill more sheets, earn more tickets!

?         Two free tickets (seller and adult) to the Mohegan Council ? Sharks Extravaganza on December 6.

o    Following the game, all Fill-a-Sheet sellers may participate in the Scouts exclusive Meet n? Greet autograph and photo session with the Sharks team.

o    The last Fill-A-Sheet weekly drawing will be for a seat on the BENCH of the Sharks to watch warm-ups along with the top seller from each district.

?         An entry into the weekly drawing, beginning September 18, 2009.

o    Weeks 1 ? 7- You could win a $25 gift certificate.

o    Week 8 - The prize is a seat on the BENCH to watch the Sharks warm-up prior to the game as part of the Mohegan Council ? Sharks Extravaganza.

Sheets not chosen will be entered into the next week's drawing. The more sheets a scout submits, the more chances to win! The earlier the sheets are submitted, the more drawings the scout may win!
