Live Oak District Merit Badge Pow Wow

The BSA Los Padres Council's Live Oak District annually sponsors a Merit Badge Pow-Wow. This Pow-Wow is traditionally held the first three Saturdays of March. However, that may change each year as the Powwow host may have scheduling conflicts.

To register for the Pow-Wow, a Boy Scout should be registered in a Troop or Crew and should fill out the Registration Form that can be downloaded from the Pow-Wow website at www.LiveOakPowWow.org. There is a fee for the Pow-Wow. See the Registration Materials for more information.

The Pow-Wow consists of four - one hour sessions. A total of four Merit Badges may be earned at Pow-Wow. However, some Merit Badges require attendance at two or three sessions. Some cannot be completed at all without certain prerequisites being completed.

The Pow-Wow Committee (see Contacts) strives to include a variety of Merit Badges in the Pow-Wow. The Merit Badges for the Eagle rank are typically available. See the Merit Badges Offered tab for more information.

This site is maintained by the Merit Badge Pow-Wow Committee. http://liveoakpowwow.org/Default.aspx

We look forward to seeing you at our events and wish you and your unit a great 2018!

Note: Please pass along this information at your next committee or unit meeting.  Further information can be inquired thought the Los Padres Council website, view calendar section or by calling the Scout Shop at 925-1955.

2018 Live Oak District Merit Badge Powwow Registration Instructions

On behalf of the Live Oak District, Los Padres Council, we invite all local Boy Scout Troops, Teams, and Crews to participate in the 2018 Merit Badge Powwow.  The Powwow will take place Saturday March 3, Saturday, March 10, and Saturday, March 17 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) Church, 908 E. Sierra Madre in Santa Maria. (Exit Stowell on U.S. 101).

The registration fee for the Powwow is $15.00 per scout. Make checks payable to “Boy Scouts of America”.

The welding merit badge has an additional fee for materials of $20.00 (total of $35.00). These fees must be paid at the same time as the registration fee.

The Welding classes will be taught at Allen Hancock College. The classes will be taught from 11 am to 2 pm at the college.

Each scout should bring a worksheet for each merit badge he is working on. Worksheets may be printed from meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php/Merit_Badge_Worksheets or any other suitable source. The scout should complete as much of the worksheet as possible prior to the first day of the Powwow.

Powwow Merit Badge course schedules will be assigned the second week of February and will be emailed to the boy's Scoutmaster and to those scouts providing an email address on the registration form by February 16, 2018. The merit badge course assignments are made on a first-come-first-served basis. If a registration form is received after the second week in February, the registration will be processed but the Scout and Scoutmaster may not receive the information prior to the first day of the Powwow. A scout is not registered until all registration material is completed and the $15 fee is paid. (Sending in a registration form without the fee will not result in a ‘reserved’ seat for a merit badge.)

At the door registrations will be available for a fee of $20 and will commence at 8:20 a.m. on the first Saturday. Course availability will be displayed at that time to indicate which classes still have seats available.

The schedule for each day is as follows.

  • 8:45- 9:00      Troop Opening Ceremony and prayer (Uniform Inspection 1st Sat.)
  • 9:00- 9:50      First class period

  • 12:50 - 1:00   Troop Closing Ceremony in Gym
  • 1:00 - 1:15     Clean up     (stack chairs/ tables & trash)

There is a 10 minute break between classes. There will be snacks provided during the breaks each week for those in Class A uniforms.  For those who may get hungry and want a meal, they should plan on bringing a sack lunch. We strongly encourage the leaders and scouts to wear their Class A uniform to the Powwow.
