National High Adventure

        

Have you ever dreamed of exploring the mountains of the American West, getting to see and experience the wild ecosystems of the Florida Keys, or paddling the historic waterways of the Fur Traders and Voyageurs? The National High Adventure Bases of the Boy Scouts of America offer a variety of programs that are challenging and fun for both youth and adults and are sure to provide a truly high adventure experience for anyone!

We encourage individuals and small groups of Scouts or Venturers to participate in these once-in-a-lifetime programs. Convince some friends to join you and sign up for an adventure. 

National High Adventure Summer Programs 

 

AGE REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL HIGH ADVENTURE: All participants must be age 14 OR
have graduated 
from the 8th grade and be age 13 by the time of the trip. 

 

 

 

Philmont Scout Ranch
Cimarron, New Mexico

 

Philmont is the Boy Scouts of America's largest national high adventure base.
It covers 137,000 acres of rugged mountain wilderness in the Sangre de Cristo range of the
Rocky Mountains in northern New Mexico.  Philmont has high mountains dominating rough
terrain with elevations ranging from 6,500 to 12,441 feet.

Del-Mar-Va Council has reserved 3 crew spots and crew size is between 7-12 participants.  
Each crew must have a majority of youth participants and requires a minimum of two adult leaders 
that meet BSA standards as stated in the Guide to Safe Scouting.

Summit Bechtel Reserve
The New River Gorge, West Virginia

The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve, aka the Summit, is the permanent site of the
national Scout jamboree and home to the Boy Scouts of America's newest national high-adventure base.
The Summit occupies 10,600 acres in West Virginia's New River Gorge region—a world-renowned adventure
sports destination known for its world-class climbing rock and monster whitewater.

Northern Tier National High Adventure
Charles L. Sommers Canoe Base- Ely, Minnesota

Northern Tier is located 22 miles east of the town of Ely, MN.
The base is located on Moose Lake which is one of the main entry points in to the Boundary Waters 
Canoe Area Wilderness.  The BWCAW is a 1 million acre protected wilderness area with over 
1,000 pristine lakes and streams and over 1,500 miles of canoe routes.

 Florida National High Adventure Sea Base

  

Sea Base is located in the heart of the Florida Keys on a subtropical island 75 miles south of Miami. 
The Florida Sea Base is Scouting's most complete aquatic facility, offering sailing, sea kayaking,
deep-sea fishing, scuba diving, snorkeling, 
catching lobster, and beachcombing.

Here you can explore the vast ecosystem of the Florida Keys and get a fish-eye view of
oceanography and marine biology.
