Dear Scoutmaster/Crew Advisor/Skipper:

The Narragansett Council extends an invitation for you to send outstanding youth scout leaders from your unit to attend National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT), traditionally known in our Council as White Stag.

What: National Youth Leadership Training Course 2

Where: Yawgoog Scout Reservation, Hopkinton, RI

When: August 15th through August 20th

Course Fee: $275.00

Due to increasing demands, NYLT will again serve 48 participants in two separate courses.  The courses are also open to all Venture Crew Youth Leaders (female and male), Sea Scout Youth Leaders, as well as Boy Scout Troop Youth Leaders.  The courses will be led by a Senior Team Leader and team of trained youth staffers who are themselves graduates of the program. The youth staff is guided by the Course Director and the program is supported by a team of trained adults, providing for health and safety as necessary.

NYLT is designed to provide your scout with a virtual “tool box” of leadership skills and knowledge to confidently return to your home unit and effectively run a youth-led program. Following a national syllabus, participants will be organized into teams and be involved in team-building exercises demonstrated and modeled by the youth staff in both classroom and outdoor learning centers. By working within teams and interacting with participants from other units, they will be able to immediately begin to practice the new skills they learn during the course. Upon completion of the course, they will return to your unit with goals that they have developed to improve your program.

To attend NYLT, a Boy Scout must be at least 13 years of age by the start of the course and have completed seventh grade, and is at least First Class.  No exceptions can be made to the age and rank requirements.  A Venturer must have the recommendation of their Crew Advisor. All Scouts should have taken Introduction to Leadership Skills course prior to attending NYLT in their home Troop or Crew.

Each unit may submit a maximum of 2 youths to attend. Two additional youths can be registered on a “Waiting List” in the event that space opens for the two courses.  Registration is first come first serve, so please register early.  Please note that you are registering specific youth and not ‘reserving slots’ in the course. In the event a registered youth cannot attend, there will be no substitutions permitted.

The last day to register for NYLT Course #2 is July 1st.

After completing the online registration, please print out and complete the following: registration receipt, signed code of conduct, and the new completed Annual Health and Medical Record signed by a physician. All registered participants, including wait list scouts, are required to bring these forms with them to the mandatory pre-course Orientation for both courses.

What: National Youth Leadership Training Orientation
