55th Annual JOTA (Jamboree-on-the-Air)
This year’s Jamboree-on-the-Air or JOTA, as it is usually called, will take place once again at Camp Roosevelt in Eddington the weekend of October 20-21. Friday night is rather calm as Scouts settle into their campsite for the weekend. Saturday brings with it a day full of possibilities. All day and into the evening there will be ham radios humming away in Pamola Lodge as Scouts are able to talk to people around the world. Each year on the third weekend in October ham radio operators around the globe meet on the air for this world-wide jamboree. In years past, Scouts have talked to people in Australia, Antarctica and even the space station as well as the locales that tuned in for the fun. Great for a day full of outdoors activities. All this fun and excitement will cost you only $5.00 per person. To make the event even more special, each unit is asked to prepare a meal to share with the other units participating in JOTA. All units will gather and have a “pot luck” meal together Saturday evening. You are asked to prepare a meal for everyone in your unit plus a few extras.
