Natural Rock Site Climbing Instructor Training

Indoor Training Session - Levels 1 and 2

 

Who: Adult Leaders, Scouts              Cost: $25.00

 

What: Today’s youth seek exciting adventures and climbing, rappelling, and bouldering offer rewarding experiences.  The satisfaction of climbing outdoors is hard to top! The CIEC Climbing Committee is dedicated to increasing and supporting our pool of qualified BSA Climbing Instructors.  Help us keep climbing and rappelling a thriving part of Scouting’s programs by becoming Climbing Instructor.  The training course is for volunteers who want to be an assistant or a lead instructor for Unit, District, and Council sponsored climbing activities.

 

BSA National guidelines and requirements for BSA climbing, rappelling, and bouldering at natural rock sites will be taught. You will learn the BSA requirements for the preparation and administration of; safety and risk management plan for sites, participants and equipment resources, youth and adult training, activity planning, site selection, and supervision of climbing and/or rappelling activities while on site.

 

BSA certified Level-1 Instructors are at least 18 years old and BSA Level-2 Instructors are at least 21 years old.  All instructors must have an application on file and be a registered member of BSA and provide proof of completing BSA Youth Protection Training.

 

This training fulfills the indoor, sit down, training requirements for BSA Level 1 and 2 Climbing Instructors.  Those interested in becoming level 2 instructors will receive additional information at this training.

 

At a minimum, participants should understand the fundamentals of climbing, including basic climbing knots, belaying and rappelling, a basic understanding of climbing equipment and types of climbing prior to taking the course. If you are new to climbing but are eager to help, reading the BSA Climbing merit badge manual is a recommended first step.

 

When/Where: Saturday October 6, 7:45AM - 4:45PM (May include a working lunch)

     United First Methodist Church - BSA Meeting Hall, 1st floor.

     262 N Euclid Ave. (BSA Meeting Hall is around the corner on C Street)
