2017 Annual "Scouting for Food" Drive
"Be Prepared" for the largest single-day canned food drive in our region. Scouting for Food teaches the values of citizenship and community service to our youth members and helps thousands of families in need around the San Francisco Bay Area.
Scouts will distribute door hangers throughout their local neighborhoods on Saturday, November 4th, and return the following Saturday, November 11th, to collect bags filled with canned goods.
Remember these important steps:
Recruit enough unit and district leaders to help. Youth need adult supervision, especially when along busy city streets. Good discipline will help prevent injuries.
Pick up your unit's door hangers. Most were distributed to units at district roundtable meetings during the first week of October.
Contact your District Scouting for Food coordinator if you need more door hangers.
Each unit should have an assigned area of responsibility. Please review your unit's assigned territory and cover only the neighborhoods in that area.
Each year, our Scouts, parents and leaders collect enough food to assist approximately 300 distribution partners & pantries throughout Bay Area with a four-month supply of food.
Scouting for Food is the largest one-day food drive in the Boy Scouts of America. This annual event started in 1988 here in the San Francisco Bay Area. Scouting for Food has expanded to other Councils across the country. Did you know more than 43 million items have been collected since 1988?

Your District Scouting for Food Coordinator will provide the territory information you will be asked to cover. Please recruit leaders and parents to help canvas your unit's territory. SFBAC Scouts collected more than 112,000 lbs of food donations during last year's drive.
