2018 Annual “Scouting for the Community” Drive

“Be Prepared” for the largest single-day food and clothing drive in our region.  Scouting for the Community teaches the values of good citizenship and community service to our youth members and helps thousands of families in need around the San Francisco Bay Area.

Scouts will distribute door hangers throughout their local neighborhoods on Saturday, November 3rd, and return the following Saturday, November 10th, to collect bags filled with canned goods and other foodstuffs, as well as jackets and sweaters (new this year!).

Remember these important steps:

  • Recruit enough unit and district leaders to help. Youth need adult supervision, especially when along busy city streets. Good discipline will help prevent injuries.

  • Pick up your unit's door hangers. Most are distributed to units at District Roundtable meetings during early October.

  • Contact a District Scouting for the Community coordinator if you need more door hangers.

  • Each unit should have an assigned area of responsibility. Please review your unit's assigned territory and cover only the neighborhoods in that area.

Scouting for Food is an annual Boy Scouts of America event that started here in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1988.  It is the largest one-day food drive benefitting San Francisco Bay Area, and each year, our Scouts, parents and leaders collect enough food to assist nearly 200 distribution partners & pantries throughout SF & Alameda Counties with a four-month supply of food.  New this year, our community service program is expanding to include jackets and sweaters for Goodwill Industries.

Door Hanger Distribution Day – Saturday, November 3, 2018

Food & Clothing Donation Collection Day – Saturday, November 10, 2018

Your District Scouting for the Community Coordinator will provide the territory information your Scout unit will be asked to cover.  Please recruit leaders and parent drivers to help canvas your neighborhoods on both Saturday mornings.

SFBAC Scouts collected almost 97,000 lbs of food donations during last year's drive.
