The purpose of BALOO is to train leaders in planning and carrying out a safe and fun-filled overnight pack experience. It is primarily planning, policies and guidelines, not outdoor skills. Each pack holding an overnight activity MUST by BSA policy have at least one BALOO-trained leader participate in the planning and attend the activity. We learn about having fun in the outdoors, equipment you'll need, approved locations, safety guidelines, the planning process, cooking outdoors, campfire programs and lots of other fun!

Participants who complete this training course will:

  • Understand the focus of the Cub Scout level of the BSA outdoor program.
  • Gain the skills needed to plan and carry out a successful Cub Scout-level overnight activity.
  • Learn more about the resources available from the BSA for carrying out this activity.
  • This training is required for any adult who is in charge of planning a pack campout.
