What is Friends of Scouting?
Direct gifts comprise the largest source of income for the Overland Trails Council. The moneys collected in our FOS campaign account for almost one quarter of the Council’s overall total income. The FOS drive is a campaign where we ask the parents of the youth who are participating in the Scouting program for a donation to support the functions of the local Boy Scout Council. The community drive is a campaign where businesses, civic organizations, and community leaders support the local Boy Scouts of America.
How does our donation help the local District and Council?
Moneys generated in the FOS campaign helps support many things including: the operation and upkeep of our Boy Scout Camp Augustine where area youth enjoy Boy Scout Summer Camp, Cub Scout Day Camp, various district and unit events, as well as our Outdoor Education program. Donations also support the efforts of our local professional, clerical, and camp staff. These employees are dedicated to bringing a positive Scouting experience to our youth and adult volunteers. Donations also help our Scouts by enabling us to provide a quality training experience to our new adult volunteers, which, in turn, enhances the youth’s experience in Scouting.
Our parents already put money into the Scouting program. Why should they make an additional monetary commitment?
In 2004 it cost the Council $132.82 per registered Scout to provide our youth and leaders with the support services necessary for a quality Scouting program. The FOS campaign helps us to continue to support our youth and leaders with a positive Scouting experience. We are asking the parents of the Scouts to help us pay for their fair share of the costs needed to make Scouting a positive experience for their youth and the youth of our community.
How can I help continue to make Scouting a positive influence in the lives of our young men?
You can make a tax-deductible contribution to our FOS campaign. You may pay by check, cash, or VISA card. You can also make a pledge for the year and pay off that pledge by making quarterly payments. Thirty-three dollars a quarter will greatly support the Boy Scouts of America and will insure its continued success in the year 2005. Please contact Dave Plond, the Overland Trails Council Scout Executive at dplond@bsamail.org for more information on making a contribution to support the local Scouting program.
