Community Leadership Breakfast Donation
On May 6, Mike Singletary (head coach for the 49ers) will be our keynote speaker at the 2nd Annual Community Breakfast. There is no cost to attend the breakfast but it is by invitation only. No children, please, may attend this event due to limited seating. At the conclusion of the event, our guests will be asked to consider making a tax-deductible donation to the Santa Clara County Council, Boy Scouts of America. As you consider your donation, please keep in mind that the cost to underwrite each one of our 16,000 youth is $275 per youth per year. All donations of any amount are appreciated and those gifts of $275 or more will be thanked with a distinctive 49ers-BSA collector's pin.
You should know that Scouting in America is a bargain for families. It costs a family $15 a year to register with the Boy Scouts of America. Those funds go directly to the national council, to underwrite the costs for developing the programs the youth enjoy.
Most of our packs, troops, and other units have fund-raisers throughout the year, so that the youth are taught the value of "A Scout is Thrifty" and he learns to pay his own way to campouts, service projects, etc.
So, where does the money come from to pay for the services provided by the local Santa Clara County Council? How does the Council raise $2.8 million to run the camps, operate the service center so the Scouts can purchase uniforms and the leaders receive literature and guidance?
The answer is from many sources, like special events (including this Community Leadership Breakfast), revenue from camps and activities, etc. and individual donations.
Your gift to the Community Leadership Breakfast is part of the Friends of Scouting campaign. Make your check payable to SCCC-BSA and mail or bring it to 970 West Julian Street, San Jose, CA 95126. Be sure to include a note if the donation should be credited to a particular table host who has invited you to the breakfast or how you heard about this event, so proper credit may be given.
If you are unable to attend the breakfast and would like to make a tax-deductible donation to the local Boy Scout program, you may use this on-line process to initiate that contribution. Donations may be paid by a credit card (with a small convenience fee added, the same amount that we would pay for this service) or you may make a pledge and make payment at a later time.
