Scoutmasters; having a Boy Scout (Den Chief) involved with your Cub Scout Pack is a great way to build the bond between the young boys in the pack and your older scouts. A good Den Chief provides assistance to the adult Den Leader, helps teach basic scouting skills, and dazzles the Cub Scouts with stories of their camping trips.
Your Den Chief could be the person who is instrumental in convincing those second year Webelos to Cross-over into YOUR troop. Cub Scouts look up to their Den Chief, the more they get to know their Den Chief the more they understand what Boy Scouting is about; the more they will want to participate in the same fun activities. The Den Chief Pledge says it all.
DEN CHIEF PLEDGE
I promise to help the Cub Scouts (or Webelos Scouts) in my Den to the best of my ability; to encourage, guide, and protect them in all Den and Pack activities; and to show them by my example what a Boy Scout is. I will strive to be prompt and dependable, and cooperate with the leaders in carrying out the Den program.
As each Cub Scout completes the third grade, I will encourage him to join a Webelos Den. As he becomes eligible, I will do all in my power to interest him in becoming a Boy Scout.
Please post on your Troop Bulletin board and in your Troop Newspaper.
Please make sure you pre-register your Scouts who plan to attend. We have cancelled the last two Den Chief trainings because no one registered, but showed up for training and had to be turned away. Please don’t disappoint your boys by not registering them for this training.
