What is a sea scout regatta?

A Sea Scout Regatta IS FOR YOU ...  If you are a registered Venturing or Sea Scout youth, or a registered adult advisor, looking for some extraordinary challenges.

A Sea Scout Regatta IS FUN ...  But only if you are at the event, on the land, on the boat,
on the water, and in-on-the-action.

A Sea Scout Regatta IS FOR NEWBEES ...  Because everyone at the regatta will be confronted with meeting new experiences, people, and challenges.

A Sea Scout Regatta IS FOR OLD-SALTS ...  Because ‘Old-salts’ will be meeting new challenges, and new people, while passing-on their hard-won wisdom to others.

A Sea Scout Regatta IS AN OPPORTUNITY ...  To gain practical experience:
• In boat handling, boat knowledge, and boat safety
• With crew comradeship, and unit team-building
• Around District and Council fellowship, food and competition.

THIS Sea Scout Regatta IS FOR YOU:  If you are actively or passively working towards your Venturing Sea Scout Bar and/or the Ordinary Sea Scout rank, or just looking for fun as a scouting youth or adult.

Here is what you can expect!
Two tacks will be executed during the regatta:
⇒ A Venturing Tack … that allows Venturing Crews to participate and compete against other Venturing Crews.
⇒ A Sea Scout Tack … that allows Ships to participate and compete against other Ships..
⇒ Separate Awards for Each Tack … Includes a WCFC Engraved trophy for the Council office, and a “take home” trophy for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place units from each tack.
⇒ In-the-boats & On-the-water … races with three types of sailboats, including single-sail class (Sunfish), multi-sail class (Catalina 16 racing dinghies), and multi-hull (high-speed catamarans). Each event designed to introduce and provide practical experience on-the-water and in-the-boat. And then too, there is the cherished “Dink-Tug-OWar”!
⇒ Action-based Land Events … that are designed to gain practical experience toward the requirements for the Venturing Sea Scout Bar and/or the Ordinary Sea Scout rank, such as these:

• Mine-sweeper — GPS use for open navigation and routes (BYO-GPS).
• Ground Tackle — Hands-on assembly, fake, drop & weigh anchor.
• What Kind-a Boat? — A potpourri of boat types and uses.
• Knots Beyond — The specialty knots for tight seamanship.
• Deadpan's Lift — Running rigging for ghastly lifting.
• Stand-on Relativity — Relation of relative bearings & right-of-way.
• Yawl Ketch This! — Sailboat types, standing & running rigging.
• Are We There Yet? — Estimating distances, heights & horizons.
• Flakey Rags — Mastering the art of sail folding.

⇒ Bring Your Own Appetite … all meals from Saturday through Sunday noon will be prepared and provided to give you maximum time with the fun and friendship.
⇒ An Evening that will have you “Feelin–the-burn” … sure there will be a beach campfire, but the toast will be the Gulfport Fire Department, hosting a fire extinguishing & flare launching extravaganza.
⇒ Overnight Berthing? ... Why not if you have not tried it!
