The HAT District Rep. job - some ideas:
- Be a presence in full uniform at your district Round Tables
wherever possible. Take some time to announce what HAT classes are on the
horizon. Make sure the HAT fliers are set out.
- Introduce people one-by-one to the HAT web page. PDF Handouts
are downloadable from the Share! web page.
- Encourage Scouters that do attend Round Table to take a few fliers.
for the other Scouters in their troops that inexplicably did not show up to
Round Table!
- Use attention-getters like
backboards with High Adventure awards stuck on them (low tech)
or
slideshows on laptops (high tech).
- Recognize those within your district that have completed HAT training.
Course Directors and District Reps will have to coordinate this one.
Directors: you need to know which students are from what district, then rat
them out to the District Reps! District Reps, then you can recognize and
thank the students publicly for their efforts.
- Volunteer to give a HAT presentation from time to time, in your area
of expertise. For example, Rich Maschner did Climb On Safely and
Cycling Safety once a year.
- Play "Liar's Club" (better name?) with some of the odd climbing and
bicycling tools. Have three different Scouts give three different explanations
of the tools. Only one is true.
- After a Cycling Safety training, hold a bike race
using those tiny "monkey bikes". The kids love beating their parents!
- Make sure other Scouters know you are the GO TO guy or gal for HAT
questions.
- Make sure you are listed on the district website. Have the district webmaster
add a link to the CIEC HAT page:
