Cub Scout leaders are considered trained when they have completed, Cub Scout Leader Specific training for their position, Youth Protection.

Training Checklist for Cub Scout Leaders

Cub Scout Leader Specific Training   DATES     on-line version  Have your Membership Number ready
Job specific training for all Cub Scout leaders and their assistants. Training lasts approximately three hours. Separate sessions for:

  • Tiger Cub Den Leader and Assistant Tiger Cub Den Leader
  • Cub Scout Den Leader and Assistant Cub Scout Den Leader
  • Webelos Den Leader and Assistant Webelos Den Leader
  • Cubmaster and Assistant Cubmaster
  • Pack Committee, includes the committee chair
  • Pack Trainer

Topics include "How We Have Fun" as well as organization, planning meetings, activities and evaluating them, job descriptions and advancement.

Youth Protection Training   
Our highest priority is the safety and well-being of our youth members and participants. To help protect our young people, we offer youth protection training in a classroom or online. It is designed to help prevent child abuse in all of its forms—whether verbal, emotional, physical, or sexual abuse, or neglect.

Recommended Additional Training for Cub Scout Leaders

This Is Scouting  

This training is for all Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Varsity, and Venturing adult leaders, as well as Chartered Organization Representatives.  This Is Scouting is an overview course that shows the continuum of how Scouting works. 


BALOO(Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation)  DATES
Training for the new Cub Scout pack leader who will be planning and implementing the outdoor program for the pack. It is basic information on the outdoors and equipment that may be needed, health and safety issues and required permits. This training includes the following topics: Equipment, Campfire Planning, Cooking, Nature Hikes and Games and Planning Outdoor Activities.  The course is required for all Packs that want to go camping.  At least one adult (leader or parent) must be BALOO certified.

In continuing support of Safe Scouting, the Boy Scouts of America has created training to help you be prepared. It is one of the key items required on the tour permit application

 Wood Badge  more....
Wood Badge is the advanced leadership training course of the Boy Scouts of America. This course is designed for any leader (Cub Scout, Boy Scout or Venturer) who has completed their respective basic training course and wants to further advance their leadership skills. Wood Badge is a two-weekend course of practical instruction and is completed when the participant finishes a “ticket” (a plan to put their training into action.) Wood Badge is an excellent training course and will truly enhance the skills of any leader who completes it.
