Commissioner Conference

A Commissioner Conference will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 from 6:30-8:30 pm at the Donald W. Reynolds Scouting Resource Center – 7220 S. Paradise Rd. Las Vegas Nevada.

The Commissioner Conference will present the updated National Annual Service Plan to our Scouting units. Technology updates including UVTS and MyScouting Tools will also be presented. All commissioners are invited to attend, including District Commissioners, Assistant District Commissioners, Unit Commissioners, and Roundtable Commissioners. District Chairman and District Committee are invited to attend.  Refreshments will be served. Come in your Scout Uniform. Registered Commissioners can receive College of Commissioner Science class credit for attending this Conference.

Annual Dinner

The Council Annual Dinner will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at Sam’s Town Hotel and Casino.  The highlight of the dinner will be the presentation of the Silver Beaver Award to 19 noteworthy volunteers of the Las Vegas Area Council.  The Silver Beaver Award is the highest council recognition awarded to registered adult volunteers for distinguished service to youth.  Additional awards will also be presented that evening.

Camp Cards - Unit Fundraiser

Camp Cards are a discount card designed to help Scouts earn their way to summer and day camps. Units participating in this program will earn 50% commission ($2.50) on each $5.00 Camp Card they sell between February 19 - May 30.  The Camp Card training and kick-off is scheduled for Wednesday February 19^th at the Donald W. Reynolds Scouting Resource Center.

The University of Scouting Supplemental Training

The University of Scouting is for all Scouting volunteers:  Cub Scout Leaders, Boy Scout Leaders, Varsity Scout Leaders, Venturing Scout Leaders as well as Commissioners and district volunteers.  Den Chief Training will also be offered to Boy Scouts.

Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the College of Southern Nevada – Cheyenne Campus is the location of the University of Scouting.  Over 100 courses will be offered for all levels of Scouting, including the College of Commissioner Science for commissions.

Free Blue and Gold Placemats

Cub Scout Packs can order free placemats to use for your Blue and Gold banquets.  These colorful placemats advertise the upcoming Cub Camping opportunities for Cub Scouts and their families.  The placemats will be available at the February district roundtables.  Click Here to order your placemats.

 Mountain Man Rendezvous

Are you ready for the biggest Boy Scout, Varsity Scout and Venturing Scout event presented by the Las Vegas Area Council?  The weekend of February 7-9, 2014 at Moapa Indian Reservation off HWY 160 in Moapa is the date and location for the rendezvous.

Summer Camp Staff Opportunities For Las Vegas Area Council Summer Camps

Applications are now being accepted for positions on the camp staffs at Kimball Scout Reservation and Del Webb Adventure Base. We're looking for motivated and confident Scouts and Venturers age 16 and older for paid staff positions and ages 14-15 for unpaid counselor-in-training positions. Staffing a summer camp builds leadership experience and a lifetime of memories. Pass this information on to anyone who might be interested in the opportunity. Download application form here.

All three summer camps, Camp Levi Levi, Kimball Scout Reservation and Del Webb High Adventure are looking for volunteer commissioners to spend a week at one of our summer camps. For more information click here. Email the camp director to apply for a volunteer commissioner position.

Wood Badge Adult Leader Training -- May 1-3 and May 15-17, 2014 

Wood Badge is leadership training for all Scout leaders involved in the Scout programs of the Boy Scouts of America: Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, Varsity Scouting, and Venturing as well as council and district leaders and professionals.

The Las Vegas Area Council 2014 course is a two weekend course to be held at Kimball Scout Reservation on May 1-3 and May 15-17, 2014.  The course fee is $240.  If you in full by March 15, 2014, the Wood Badge Association will pay $40 of the $240 fee. Scout Leader Outdoor Training  -- Friday-Saturday February 21-22, 2014

The Bighorn District is hosting Scout Leader Outdoor Training in February.  The fee for the training is $20 if paid by February 14th and $25 after February 15th.  Boy Scout Leaders and Varsity Scout Leaders need to complete this training as well as the indoor leader specific training to be considered trained.  Contact Debra Salls for more information at mdsalls@aol.com

Scout Day with the Rebels
 Join us for Scout Day with UNLV Men’s Basketball as they take on Boise State, Saturday, February 1st at 5:05pm at the Thomas & Mack Center.  Tickets are just $12 per person. All scouts will get a chance to shoot a free throw at the end of the game! Tickets can be picked up at the Trading Post.  Last day to purchase tickets is Friday, January 30th.
